Our Life On Purpose

We have 940 Saturdays until our kids graduate from high school and go on to college. That's 18 summers to make the most of our time with them.

Every year, we make resolutions to be intentional. Eat less, exercise more, get up earlier etc. We want to live our life on purpose, be intentional about parenting and being together and make family our favorite thing.

Our Life

We love family time, and though sometimes that means we have more mess than we'd like, we want to share our journey with you. Follow along as we share our favorite experiments and experiences as we try to make every moment count.

Though the days are long, the years are short.

I have to say San Antonio was one of the most festive and fun places I have ever spent New Year’s Eve, which was totally unexpected. • The River Walk was still all decorated with lights and we were able to make it there early enough to have a nice dinner by the river. • Just as we were leaving, the streets started filling with people dressed in bright, festive gear ready to ring in the new year. • San Antonio apparently hosts the largest free New Year’s Eve festival in the state of Texas! • We chose a bit more of a low key option though, and headed back to Bertie (our travel trailer) to finish out our night. But at midnight as the new year came in, it sounded and looked like the entire city was erupting in fireworks! We ran outside to join in all excitement! It was such a cool experience! • So if you love spending big holidays in busy, exciting and festive places, then the charming city of San Antonio might be just your thing. • Happy New Year everyone! •

“Buy experiences not things. Experiences make people happier than spending on things. Things get broken over time and go out of style. Experiences get better every time you talk about them.” ~ Jean Chatsky • Taking the girls to see the Moscow Ballet perform the Nutcracker was definitely one of my favorite gifts we gave the girls this Christmas. • From watching their excitement to get dressed up, to their looks of pure amazement as the ballerinas twirled around the stage. • I am grateful for each of these experiences that we are having and will hopefully talk about about for many years to come. What kind of memorable experiences did you have with your family this year? •

I was really grateful for how “normal” our Christmas was this year while we are living in an RV. • It just really made me realize that our life and traditions are set up around things that last. Things that have roots. Things that aren’t based on locations or stuff. But on being with those that matter. • I also realize how blessed we are to have had 3 of our family members fly out to be with us. Which is an insane privilege. And we definitely wish that all of our family could have all flown out! But having them with us made it feel like little had changed! And we got to share our adventures with them too! Which was such a treat! • But we still made peanut blossoms, and eggnog French toast, and put together legos. The kids still got new Christmas PJ’s (thanks @granniangie54 !). And some fun new trucker hats and new books! • Living in a travel trailer didn’t change much for us this Christmas, except for in all the right ways. We got to be outside more, enjoying new places with some of those we love! And we spent less time and money on things that we will quickly give away to the Goodwill. • All in all. I think it was a win-win! •

Ok, so finally getting caught up on some holiday posting.. better late than never. Christmas take 2! • We got the chance to spend our second Christmas celebration in Austin/Lockhart Texas area with my mom. • It was so cool to get to go to the and see the amazing display of Christmas lights with about 1 million other people . (We definitely have the best ability to pick the busiest nights of the year to visit every place). But it was seriously magical and cool to experience something that is such a big part of the Austin Christmas experience. • We found out about the trail of lights from some friendly Texans that we met while shopping at #walmart. They said it was a must see and they were right. Crowds and all. Such a great adventure! •

We were all excited to see a tarantula while in the southwest. These things are so cool…and creepy. Now I’m afraid to walk in the grass 🕷

My IG story in case you didn’t catch it. In San Antonio they celebrate New Years with a bang. Or…many many bangs. Apparently everyone gets bottle rockets?! Such a unique and cool experience. Don’t mess with Texas.

At some point I’m sure I’ll make a video about Austin, but this was a really cool place to spend a couple hours with the Peacocks. Hannah says females are called Peahens.

While GoGo and Papa (Joseph’s Parents) were with us in Arizona we got to visit Saguaro National Park. • It was so fun to share the landscape and beautiful Saguaro cacti with them! And to teach them how to say all the fun Arizona words that we learned like cholla (Choy-ah), gilla (hee-la) monster and Saguaro (suh-wah-roe). • Arizona sunsets have by far been some of the best we have ever seen! Can you believe how gorgeous the landscape is at sunset! •

A cold front moved through Texas. It’s 54 here but that hasn’t stopped the kids from swimming in the pool.

Christmas take 1! We were so blessed to have not 1 but 2 Christmas celebrations while on the road! • Joseph’s parents flew out to Tucson and we rented an Airbnb for the week (which is actually our family tradition every year). We missed some of the rest of the family but we had so much fun with GoGo and Papa! • We also took a hayride through the Winterhaven Festival of Lights. It was so beautiful and festive to see an entire neighborhood covered in lights! •
